Pertex Quantum and REED

Working on the same principle as Hamilton’s fine cotton canvas, super-fine soft nylon yarns are worked with a maximum thread count to produce a water resisting, moisture wicking Pertex. This fabric is the lightest 100% Ripstop Nylon ever at 30gm /m2 (0.9oz /yd sq).

Using Pertex Quantum, Reed have designed a Windcheater Jacket and Trousers, which can be used for both land and sea sports, as outer shells or as mid layers. Each garment packs up to the size of a small apple , with its own integral stuff sack. The weight to warmth ratio for these garments is unprecedented.

How light is it?

At 30g/m sq {0.9oz/yd sq} Pertex Quantum offers outstanding strength to weight ratio.

Pertex Jacket weighs just 80gms

Pertex Trousers weigh just 68gm

Fabric Technical Background

Pertex originated over thirty years ago from mountaineer Hamish Hamilton, whilst researching the material quality of mountaineering fabrics. Hamilton recognised that cotton canvas and canopy fabrics gained much of their water resistance by wicking moisture along softly spun yarns. This characteristic became known as capillary action. Hamilton’s initial findings were eventually to be developed and used in the production of the now legendary Vango Force Ten tents. The same technology forms the basis of the structure of Pertex.
